David P. Fulton / Psychotherapy

David Fulton - LMFT #116108

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT #116108) and founder of California Depth Therapy, a depth based psychotherapy practice located in San Diego, California.

I graduated in 2011 with a Masters in Counseling Psychology from The Seattle School of Theology and Psychology. My program leaned heavily on trauma therapy as well as the art and practice of psychotherapy. My therapeutic mind has been informed by Dr. Dan Allender’s theories of narrative development, Dr. Roy Barsness’ focus on relational psychoanalysis and Dr. Donnell Day’s framework of British Object relations. During my studies, I completed a year-long internship at the student counseling center at Northwest University and later contributed as a Practicum Facilitator at The Seattle School, helping to shape the next generation of therapists.

It is my belief that we are made to be in deep and meaningful relationships both with ourselves and others. This search can be both a delight and struggle because relationships are often the source of our greatest joy and deepest pain. However, most of us tend to operate unaware of the stories that shape our unconscious mind. My practice is rooted in the rich traditions of psychodynamic, psychoanalytic, and British object relations theories. These methodologies allow us to address the deepest layers of the psyche, uncovering and resolving unconscious processes and emotional conflicts that often elude more surface-level interventions. My hope is not just to alleviate symptoms but to facilitate enduring transformation. However, growth and healing are often paradoxical. Things die and new life comes. We weep and then joy breaks. We find the courage to hold hope and it breaks our hearts. When we look inward towards the truth of ourselves in both beauty and brokenness we can rebuild and imagine new life, perhaps for the first time.

In addition to my therapeutic practice, I am dedicated to mentoring emerging therapists. As a supervisor, I am passionate in helping young therapist understand the art of psychotherapy. I help with skill refinement and attunment helping trainees understanding of psychodynamic and psychoanalytic theories.

Growing up as kid on the beaches of northeastern Florida I have an immense love for the ocean. I moved to San Diego to bring myself and my story to the waters edge. In between sessions you can often find me surfing, hiking or riding my Vespa soaking up the California sun.

Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.
